Understanding and Supporting Older Children to Engage in OSHC - Webinar Wednesday
Facilitated by Rarni Rothwell
Older children have long been considered challenging for many educators in OSHC, “The difficult older child in OSHC now seems to be accepted as a truth” (Hurst, 2013:1). But what do we really know about this phase of middle childhood development more recently categorised as Tween? How do their support needs differ from their younger and older counterparts? How do children of this age view OSHC? What opportunities does this offer for our OSHC programs?
A tween is a child between the stages of childhood and adolescence, typically 8 to 13yrs of age. This session will reconsider what we know about this transformative age group, using holistic developmental and post structural theory, and reflect how this impacts their relationships, engagement and leisure time in OSHC.
This session is suited to OSHC professionals at all career stages.
