Supporting Middle Childhood Development in OSHC

All children are unique individuals who will grow and develop at their own pace. Although there are many differences in how children learn, grow and develop, there are also observable benchmarks for children’s growth and development that educators need to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of. Such awareness enables educators to respond to children appropriately by recognising that particular behaviours, abilities and interests are typical to children’s development. This also enables educators to promote children’s learning through using appropriate strategies and resources.

This sessions will:

• Explore the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, creative and spiritual domains
• Develop an appreciation of relevant theories that support these
• Discuss suitable and varied experiences to extend children’s learning and development across the developmental domains
• Discuss the design and delivery of an OSHC program which supports and promotes development holistically in accordance with the NQF
