Experiencing Belonging in OSHC - Webinar Wednesday
Facilitated by Emily McKenna
The need to belong is fundamental to the human experience and yet, notoriously difficult to measure. With “being, becoming & belonging” almost becoming a catchphrase from our approved learning framework, how many of us have paused to reflect on the state of belonging in our OSHC services? How are children, families & educators experiencing belonging?
In fact, research has found that anyone can experience “belonging uncertainty”, when people want to belong in a space but there is some deep question about their ability to belong there.
Today’s session will unpack:
- Belonging and its importance
- Factors that support and erode belonging
- The interconnectedness of diversity, belonging and inclusion
Our brains are wired for belonging and this experience is linked to individuals being happier, healthier, and more resilient. Belonging lays the foundation for thriving individuals and strong communities.
As Susie Wise (Stamford University) writes, “belonging is the key that unlocks the best in everyone. Having a sense of belonging leads to flourishing in every environment and group, big and small, from your home to the culture at large.”
This session is suited to OSHC professionals at all career stages.
In response to the changing needs of the OSHC sector we have made the following modifications to our Webinar Wednesdays:
- 30 minute sessions - shorter, sharper content to overcome the time constraints many services are experiencing that limits their engagement with professional development
- New supplementary resources for every session including:
- Training Plan for Educational Leaders with session objectives, regulatory context, pre reading or viewing options, learning activities and additional resources links. This is designed to scaffold Educational Leaders with supporting their educator team in their on the job training, ongoing learning and professional development. It draws connections between session content and pedagogy and practice, and provokes critical reflection on the important role of educational leadership.
- Educator Worksheet with reflections and activities for ‘Putting into Practice’ the session content
- This means that even through the sessions are shorter – you’re not missing out on the important bits
- Cost savings - enjoy educator team (per service) participation for the same fee
- New delivery time - 10:00am to 10:30am EST
