About the Event

Considering Cultural Safety in OSHC

Facilitated by Lainey Walker

The My Time Our Place V2.0  glossary defines cultural safety as:

Recognition, respect and protection of the inherent rights, cultures and traditions of a particular culture. In a culturally safe environment, there is “no assault, challenge or denial of their people’s identity, of who they are and what they need. It is about shared respect, shared meaning, shared knowledge and experience, of learning, living and working together with dignity and truly listening” (Williams 2008).

With the addition of the "Cultural Responsiveness" practice element in MTOP V2.0, you may find yourself asking, "What is the difference between the two concepts? Where does cultural safety fit?"

In this session we will consider:

• How we define cultural safety and why it's important

• How cultural safety fits into the OSHC context and service delivery

• How our individual practice impacts cultural safety

This session is suited to OSHC professionals at all career stages.
